Now that we have an understanding of the nature of Scripture and have the tools to become better readers of the Bible, we are “turning in our Bibles” to the first among the four, canonical gospels. Matthew makes a fitting transition from the Hebrew Bible as it welcomes us into the social, cultural, and theological world of Jesus as he carefully unfolds the good news of God’s Messiah.
The schedule below will guide our journey of growth and formation. Along the way, we will likely have to make course corrections, but the schedule will accommodate as needed. We will be using N.T. Wright’s Matthew for Everyone (2 volumes) as a guide for this study. Wright balances accessibility, pastoral awareness, and top-level biblical scholarship, so if you want to read it alongside Matthew’s gospel you will find it to be a rich resource.
Each week the class in the main building (Room 106) will be live-streamed on Crestview’s Facebook page beginning at 9:00 a.m. for those who cannot attend in person. The name or names indicated beneath the topic for a particular week indicates the person teaching in Room 106 who will be featured on the live stream.
